LETTER: L'Italien Crosses the Isle to Get Results

Here is a Letter to the Editor from Andover resident Margot Bixby in support of Democratic state representative candidate Barbara L'Italien.

Dear Editor, Whenever I have conversations with friends and family about politics, more often than not the conversation isn’t about which political party is right - it is about the partisan gridlock and complete lack of cooperation. Whatever your political beliefs, no doubt most Americans want to see their officials working together to tackle the tough issues and move our country forward. It is with these feelings in mind that I feel compelled to write about how excited I am to see Barbara L’Italien running for State Representative. Serving 8 years representing the Merrimack Valley, Barbara built a reputation as a thoughtful, hardworking legislator. There were only 16 Republicans in the House when L'Italien was there, 33 now that she's not there. Not much of a "bipartisan" feat here. She found one who wanted more government spending on one of her pet projects. This is a representative who as an elitist berated people disagreeing with her. She didn't and wouldn't represent her district, only the Deval Patrick agenda.   more ›

L’Italien Announces State Rep. Candidacy

The former state representative is seeking her former seat.

It's official. Former State Rep. Barbara L'Italien of Andover is running for state representative for the Essex 18th District. L'Italien held that seat for eight years before being defeated by Rep. Jim Lyons in 2010. “This is my home," she said in a statement announcing her candidacy. "I was born here, attended Merrimack College and am fortunate enough to have raised my four children here. I understand the local issues that people in this community care about—jobs, schools, and family." After her 2010 defeat, L'Italien began working as State Treasurer Steve Grossman's director of government affairs, and she says her work in creating funding opertunities for local small businesses through the Small Business Banking Partnership helped to …

In a recent article in another publication, Ms. L'Italien implied that Mr. Lyons had accomplished "nothing" in his first term. Ms. L'Italien, please list your major accomplishments at your job at the Treasurer's office during the past two years. Btw, well done, I heard they performed a nationwide search to fill that position prior to you securing it ?   more ›
