Police have not had to write any tickets yet for residents driving on the roadways but did reprimand motorists that were driving.
As of 4 p.m. Friday afternoon, the governor had declared a state of emergency and prohibited all non-emergency vehicles from driving on the roadways. Andover Police officers have been patroling the streets of Andover to allow the DPW staff to do their jobs and clear the streets. Andover Police Lt. John Pathiakis said that there have been some motorists that just couldn't stay off the roadway. And he said that patrolman had to pull them over and tell them to go home. "We had to pull a few cars over and say, 'Look, get the heck off the road,'" said Pathiakis. However, he said that they have not yet issued any tickets for driving on the road during the ban, which is a $500 fine, according to state law. Police have not reporting any major …
The Town of Andover DPW is working hard to clear the streets but it seems residents have been staying inside.
Andover was slammed yesterday and last night with one of the largest storms in recent history and now residents are looking outside to see 20-plus inches in their backyard, and climbing. The town's emergency and public works services are doing fine, according to Lt. John Pathiakis. Most importantly residents are staying off the roadway. "Everyone's been following the governor's orders," said Pathiakis. It's been very quiet. The public works crew is out clearing the streets without the distraction of civilian vehicles and the clean-up effort has been, fortunately, uneventful. "It's been good," said Pathiakis. We at Patch like to have fun – even when we’re covering a story as big as the Blizzard of ’13! So when the biggest storm in years (potentially in the history of Boston weather) is headed our way, we get into battle mode – and even get a little silly. The Andover roads were scarce as of 4 p.m, when the governor declared all non-emergency vehicles were prohibited from driving on the roadway.
All Andover roads are now off limits to residents and other non-emergency drivers but there were still a few cars on the road as of 3:30 p.m. Friday. Take a look at a quick look at several different areas of town in this Patch Clip.

Maybe 20 years ago, took my kids to the "Sand Pit" next to Recreation Park! Slopes leading to the bottom of the pit were quite exciting to sled on! Access was at the very end of Rec Park Road. Also, the Gated Road to Pomps pond would be good sledding as well as a service road leadind to the bottom of the sand pit more ›
