The State Police have announced increased patrols in light of Andover's fatal accident.
In light of a crash that killed an elderly couple last week, the State Police Barracks in Andover will be focusing on Route 125 immediately. In a press release sent Thursday, State Police said effective immediately, they will be directing a selective enforcement patrol to focus exclusively on Route 125 through Wilmington, Andover, and North Andover. "This action is being taken in the interest of public safety in response to traffic concerns raised by community members," the release said. Several community members have said a set of lights is needed at the stretch of road in Andover where the couple was killed Friday. Barbara L'Italian calling for action after fatal accident.
In the wake of a fatal accident last Friday that killed an elderly couple, neighbors and politicians are calling for action on the dangerous stretch of road. According to an article in the Eagle Tribune, former state Rep. Barbara L’Italien, who lives a half mile from Route 125 on Harper Circle was involved in a project to install traffic lights on the bypass in 2006. L'Italien is calling for the state’s Department of Transportation to take another look at the stretch of road after the improvements were completed in 2008. The article notes at one time, there was a push to have five intersections include full traffic lights, but only three ended up being approved. One person dead and another in critical condition after accident Friday afternoon.
One person is confirmed dead after a head-on collision at Rt. 125 and Wildwood Road Friday afternoon. Shortly before 5 p.m., Andover and State Police responded to the accident involving a pick-up truck and sedan. Two people were trapped. One person is confirmed dead, the other in being transported in critical condition to a Boston hospital by medical helicopter, according to Massachusetts State Police. Route 28 and Rt. 125 is closed in the area of Tokyo Steakhouse in order for the medical helicopter to land. Andover Patch will bring you updates as we get them.

An accident early this morning on I-93 north resulted in the death of a Londonderry, N.H., man, who police have just identified.
Police are still investigating a two-car motor vehicle accident on Interstate 93 that resulted in the fatality of a New Hampshire man early Friday morning. Police recently identified the victim as David S. Tulley, 19, of Londonderry, N.H. At approximately, 4:12 a.m. police responded to the accident in the area of Interstate 93 northbound before the Dascomb Road exit in Andover. A preliminary investigation indicates that Tulley was driving his 2001 Ford Taurus when he lost control of the vehicle, weaving in and out of the median strip until he hit an object in the median strip. This collision forced him to rollover into the northbound lane and collide with the driver of a 2004 Dodge Dakota pickup truck. He was transported to Lahey Clinic …

There's little left to discuss on this issue. It's a dangerous road and the lights need to be installed. How many more people need to die or be injured? Better yet, Wildwood should be blocked off to stop the speeders that are using it as a commuting cut through.   more ›
