The popular fitness facility, which will be open 24 hours, is currently pre-selling their memberships with a $1 down.
Planet Fitness, 209 North Main Street, Shawsheen Plaza, plans to open its 17,000 square feet facility next month, at the former location of Marshalls, according to Manager Krista Moulton. The space has been vacant since March 2011 when the store closed and moved to Lawrence. The Andover franchise is one of five locations owned by the North Shore Fit Management. The group owns existing clubs in Methuen, Billerica and Newburyport and will also open soon in Reading, according to Moulton. The Planet Fitness corporate office is located in Newington, NH. Exercising is a must, especially in the New Year’s resolution phase of the year, but it doesn’t have to be a dreaded chore in the freezing cold. Anne Buttner, co-owner of Curves, offers some tips on improving your exercise routine in the wake of holiday season gluttony. 1. Frequency is key. Buttner explains that exercising frequently should be habitual to ensure ideal health. Her recommendation is that 5-7 days of exercise per week is a good goal. “I think it needs to be daily, minimum of five days per week,” she suggests. 2. Aim for half an hour. Latitudes Sports Club in downtown Andover recently underwent a $100,000 makeover. “The members had always said that we needed to expand our workout space,” said owner Ralph Bagarella. When Christina’s Bridal and Formal Wear moved across the street, Latitudes saw its opportunity to expand. “We’ve been always waiting for this space to open up and it finally did,” Bagarella said. The facility, located on Main Street, occupied 10,000 square feet. “We added 4,000 square feet,” said Bagarella, whose goal was not only to expand, but also modernize the facility. “We made it look ultra-modern with spiral ducts and copper paint,” said Bagarella.
