The historic photo posted on Christmas Day showed a snow-covered intersection of Andover Street and School Street.
The historic photo posted on Christmas was taken in the late 1900s looking south at the intersection of School Street and Main Street. Andover Street resident Don Milligan was the first to correctly answer the question. In the background is the Cheever House, according to the Andover Historical Society. Here is what it looks like today, still covered with snow.
The first correct guess for this week's Then and Now was made only minutes after the historic photo was featured.
AndoverPatch reader and Lovejoy Road resident Mike McGovern correctly guessed that the historic photo posted on Saturday was taken at the intersection of Central Street and Main Street, looking south down Main Street. Best of all, he guessed it only nine minutes after it went up on the AndoverPatch homepage. With that in mind, we will try to throw out a stumper for next week's "Then and Now." The building posted on the homepage on Saturday was located at Phillips Academy. The photo was taken between 1900 and 1906, according to the Library of Congress website, and shows a much more barren campus than what exists today.
