Some of the biggest names in music take the stage at Madison Square Garden for the live 12-12-12 concert for Sandy relief. While thousands of people fill the arena, billions are watching live on a variety of screens worldwide. The concert is streaming live on television networks (including AMC and HBO), movie theater screens and on the Internet, including right here on Patch. Employees help out, and you can, too
It's been said it's far better to have a neighbor who's near, than a brother who's far away, but in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Americans across the nation have proven to be the best neighbors and the strongest of families. National Grid officials said that the majority of those without power, which is at 3 percent of all customers, should get it back by midnight tonight.
National Grid crews are out restoring power to those that are still in the dark after Hurricane Sandy and said that nearly all customers should have power by midnight tonight. In a teleconference this afternoon, National Grid president Marcy Reed said that crews have been out restoring power to customers across the northeast for over 48 hours since beginning on Tuesday morning at 6 a.m., when the power company decided it was safe to begin working. Reed said that, as of 3 p.m. Thursday, power has been restored to 97 percent of National Grid customers. Roughly 5,600 customers are still without power. National Grid President Marcy Reed said Wednesday that the comapny is ahead of schedule in its effort to restore power and said the company will continue to wok out kinks with the newly-created community liaison position.
National Grid is head of schedule in its effort to restore power following widespread outages following Hurricane Sandy, according to company President Marcy Reed. Reed, speaking to reporters in a conference call from a Chelmsford parking lot on Wednesday afternoon, said the company’s estimated restoration times were based on having three-quarters of its customers restored by Thursday night. “We are already there,” she said. “We are progressing ahead of schedule.” As of 2 p.m. on Wednesday, 78 percent of the 237,000 National Grid customers that were without power statewide had been restored. National Grid is working to restore power to all of Andover by late night Friday.
National Grid has restored power to roughly 1,500 customers in the past day. The power company reports that 1,544 Andover customers are still without power due to Hurricane Sandy. National Grid reports that they are working to restore power to all of Andover by 11:59 p.m. on Nov 2. The 1,544 customers translates to roughly 11.3 percent of Andover's customer base, or 13,600 total customers, without power.

The largest electric utility in Massachusetts, National Grid—which serves Andover—said Tuesday that it would offer exact power restoration estimates later in the afternoon after Hurricane Sandy moved through on Monday.
National Grid says it will have exact power restoration estimates by the end of Tuesday, according to company President Marcy Reed. The estimates, which have always traditionally been offered when the company knows when each customer will have their power back, will be distributed “far and wide,” said Jackie Berry, a company spokeswoman. There are a total of 2,400 National Grid employees at work on Tuesday afternoon statewide in Massachusetts, ranging from line crews, tree crews, transmission crews and other workers following Hurricane Sandy. There are 530 total crews at work, with more than 300 of those from outside National Grid's service area. In addition, the newly created “community liaisons” are at work in the emergency operations …

The owner of Bill DeLuca's Woodworth Chevrolet-Cadillac in Andover is currently in critical condition after a tree fell on his car last night in his home town of Windham, N.H. William Deluca III is currently at Massachusetts General Hospital according to an official from public affairs at the facility. No other details on Deluca's condition are available at this time. Emergency management officials were not immediately available for comment this morning, but a hoard of police and fire vehicles responded to Range Road near Cobbett's Pond Road on Monday at around 5:30 p.m. The officer directing traffic away from the scene reported that there had been a "very bad accident," and that the entire area was closed down.
