It's been a long shift for Andover firefighters. Thursday night one of the Andover engine units battled a huge fire on South Broadway in nearby Lawrence. Then early Friday morning a cellar caught fire on Fosters Pond Road back in Andover. There was smoke but no flame visible when units arrived at 4 Fosters Pond Road this morning at 6:47, Deputy Chief Al DelDado told Patch. The fire apparently began in the cellar and was contained to that area. Firefighters had the blaze under control within 30 minutes. They're still investigating the cause, but early indications are it was accidental, DelDado said. One firefighter slipped and fell on the ice that quickly formed in the frigid temperatures. The Golden Warrior skiers shredded the compeition yesterday at Bradford Ski Area. To start the meet off, Andover faced Manchester-Essex. The Warriors easily won by a score of 108-27. Next, a winless Haverhill tried its hand at taking down the heavily favored Warriors. The Hillies took too long getting down the hill, as they were dominanted by a score of 133-2. The day's top performer was Andover's Nick Sherman. His score of 20.3 led all skiers. Finishing in second place on the top 15 list was Warrior Matt Cummings (21.38). Tom Suglia's 21.66 was good for fifth on the day. Other teams participating in the meet were Masconomet Regional, North Andover, and St. John's. Andover had five skiers finish in the top 15.
