Athlete of the Week

Athlete of the Week: Meagan Keefe

This three-sport athlete is a junior and already has a state championship under her belt going into the field hockey season.

Though she is pictured above in hockey attire, this week's Athlete of the Week is Meagan Keefe for her role on the Andover High School field hockey team, whose regular season starts on Sept. 12. The squad won 24 games in a row without losing once en route to a Division 1 state championship last year. They picked up their 25th straight win if you count yesterday's 2-0 preseason win over North Andover. Keefe scored the first goal of the game early in the second period yesterday afternoon to open the scoresheet on the 2011 season. Come winter, Keefe will be a major contributor as a junior on the AHS hockey team. The promise she has shown in the past two years certainly indicate a bright future for the young, multi-talented athlete.  In the …

Andover Lacrosse Stars Honored by MVC

Jen Caro was named the MVC Division 1 Player of the Year.

Girls The Merrimack Valley Conference honored several Andover High School girls lacrosse players for their efforts in the 2011 season. Senior Jen Caro was named the MVC’s Division 1 Player of the Year. Caro and six of her teammates were named to the All-Conference team. Senior Sara Miller, senior Meghan Morris, senior Emily Shields, junior Anne Farnham, junior Kate Farnham, and junior Ally Fazio all joined Caro as members of the MVC All Conference team. Meghan Morris will be attending Siena College this fall. Emily Shields will be attending American University. The Lady Warriors advanced to their first sectional final game in school history. Andover was unable to seal the deal and fell to Lincoln-Sudbury in the final.   Boys Five Andover …

Top 10 Athletes of the Spring

Patch counts down the top Golden Warriors of the spring season.

This week’s Athlete of the Week column features ten extraordinary athletes who participated in spring sports at Andover High School. 10. Kate Farnham – Lacrosse Kate was part of a field hockey team in the fall that brought home a state title. In lacrosse, her and the Warriors fell just short of earning a berth in this year’s state tournament. Back in April, Farnham said the keys to her success were teamwork and good relationships. 9. Alex Driscoll – Baseball Driscoll was one of six seniors from the baseball team who graduated this year. All six of the seniors graduated with academic honors. Driscoll was an MVC ball All-Star this season. He said staying focused and present gives him an upper hand on the field. 8. Rachel Ochs – Girls Tennis …

Golden Warriors' Report Card: Lacrosse

Andover Patch gives the AHS lacrosse teams their final grades for the season.

Andover Patch will give each AHS varsity spring team a report card grade throughout the week. This is part one of a three part series. The Andover High School lacrosse teams combined for a season record of 34-10. Let’s take a look at how they did on their report cards. Girls The Lady Warriors brought the AHS girls lacrosse program into uncharted territory this year. For the first time in school history, the girls advanced to the MIAA Division 1 North Championship game. Unfortunately, the Warriors could not hang with second seeded Lincoln-Sudbury in the final. Andover finished its season with a record of 22-2. Four seniors have already graduated. Sarah Miller, Meghan Morris, Jen Caro, and Emily Shields are the newest Warriors alumni. “The …

Battle of Warriors in North Lax Final Tomorrow

The Andover Warriors and Lincoln-Sudbury Warriors face off in the MIAA Division 1 North Final tomorrow.

After history was made on Wednesday night, the girls lacrosse team now sets its sights on the MIAA Division 1 North Championship game which will be held at Andover High School tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The Lady Warriors are in uncharted territory as they have now advanced farther than any other girls lacrosse team in school history. Andover’s win over Westford Academy on Wednesday improved their record to 22-1 on the season. Meghan Keefe, Jen Caro, and Ally Fazio starred in the Andover win. Each scored four goals apiece. Sara Miller added three and Weezie Gross added a pair. Goalies Jill Beucler and Katherine Geffken combined for seven saves. Andover will take on Lincoln-Sudbury with a shot at the MIAA State Tournament on the line. …

Tripleheader of Semifinal Showdowns Today

Andover Patch is providing complete playoff coverage of the Golden Warriors.

Girls Lacrosse The Lady Warriors will have their semifinal showdown this evening at 6:00 p.m. at Andover High School. The top seeded Warriors are 21-1, and they will face 11-8-1 Westford Academy. The winner of tonight's game will take on Lincoln-Sudbury in the MIAA Division 1 North Final. Should Andover advance, they would host the final and advance into the state tournament. Semifinal Showdowns Await Andover

The girls lacrosse, boys tennis, and girls tennis teams will all play in the tournament semifinals on Wednesday.

The girls lacrosse, boys tennis, and girls tennis teams have all qualified for their respective MIAA Division 1 North Semifinals. All three of the Semifinal Showdowns will be on Wednesday.  Girls Lacrosse The Andover girls are once again making a run deep into the MIAA playoffs. In the winter it was the basketball team, this spring it is the lacrosse team. With a convincing 18-11 win over Acton Boxboro on Saturday afternoon, the Warriors qualified for the MIAA Division 1 North Semifinals. Andover will do battle with Westford Academy on Wednesday with a shot at the North Final on the line. Westford Academy has been a dark horse throughout their playoff run. Billerica Bounces Andover from Tournament

The Warriors could not handle the Indians in the MIAA Division 1 East First Round.

The boys lacrosse team had their season come to an end at the hands of the Billerica High School Indians yesterday afternoon in Billerica. Andover used an 8-5 win over Bridgewater-Raynham to advance to the first round of the MIAA Division 1 East Tournament. The 15th seeded Warriors, however, were no match for the second seeded Indians. Billerica jumped out to a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. The teams played even in the second period with two goals apiece setting the halftime score at 7-3 Billerica. Billerica put the game away in the third quarter. The Indians scored five goals, and Andover could not penetrate the Billerica defense whatsoever. Going into the fourth quarter it was 12-3 Indians. VIDEO: Warriors Beat AB, Advance to Semi-Final

Meagan Keefe scored five goals to help Andover win in their quarterfinal game.

With an 18-11 win over Acton Boxboro, the Lady Warriors lacrosse team advanced into the MIAA Division 1 North Semifinals. The Warriors improved their record to 21-1 and have won 18 straight games. Andover jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first 6 minutes and 15 seconds of the game. Senior captain Meghan Morris scored a hat trick within that short span. She scored a total of four goals in the game. Star sophomore Megan Keefe had a five goal effort. Emily Shields added two clutch goals.  A sectional championship is now in Andover’s sights. Andover will take on either Lexington or Westford Academy in the Semi-Final. That game will be at Andover High School on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.

Tennis Teams Triumph, Softball Suffers Loss

Both lax teams are playing their second playoff games today.

Boys Tennis Quite fittingly, Austin Bendetson was Andover Patch’s Athlete of the Week yesterday. Bendetson achieved a 6-0, 6-0 win in the first round of the MIAA North Division 1 Tournament yesterday to help Andover advance into the quarter-final round against Revere. Andover claimed a 5-0 win yesterday. Andrej Samardzic also had a convincing win with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at second singles. Varun Penamatsa dominated for a 6-0, 6-1 win at third singles. In doubles action Evan Birenbaum and Justin Edelman combined for a 6-1, 6-2 win. At second doubles Alex Kutchin and Arun Padykula teamed up for a 6-1, 6-1 win. On Sunday at 2 p.m., the Warriors tennis squad is back in action in the quarterfinal round against Boston Latin. Andover High hosts …
