The Birds of Winter at Memorial Hall Library

Visit MHL this January for several exciting events.

Brush the snow off your feathers for two seasonal bird programs at Memorial Hall Library this January.  Local penguin expert and award-winning author, Dyan deNapoli will speak about the world’s largest animal rescue, and author, naturalist, and photographer John Rockwood will give a multi-media presentation on the Winter Birds of New England.  Fly over to Memorial Hall Library this January for an exciting programming series! Anne Bradstreet: Founding Mother and First Poet

Memorial Hall Library will celebrate the 400th anniversary of the birth of poet Anne Bradstreet, early settler and founder of the new town of Andover.

On Sunday, September 23 at 2pm, Andover’s Susan Lenoe will enact Anne Bradstreet’s tumultuous life, one in which she raised eight children, wrote hundreds of pages of poetry, and supported her husband, Simon Bradstreet, in his public life as secretary and deputy governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. In 1630, eighteen-year-old Anne sailed with her husband and other Puritans, including John Winthrop, to the wild shores and forests of New England.  In 1646, after living in several areas in the Massachusetts colony, including Cambridge and Ipswich, the Bradstreets made the Andover area their home until Anne’s death in 1672. In the 17th century, most women could not even read, let alone write, yet Anne was one of the first poets in …

Memorial Hall Library is celebrating reading for pleasure with summer reading programs for children, teens, and adults. Visit the library for exciting programs, chances to win prizes, and to find great books! CALLING ALL DREAMERS! The Memorial Hall Library Children’s Room invites you to join us for a summer of fun!  This summer, we will explore the themes of dreams, space, and creatures of the night as part of the statewide summer reading program Dream Big---Read!
