Black Friday, Small Business Saturday: What's Your Deal?

Thursday is Thanksgiving, and that means the following days will be devoted to shopping. Black Friday is Nov. 23, and Small Business Saturday is Nov. 24. For some, that means rushing to the malls and big box stores to stand in line for bargains. But for many, it also means looking for local, small business shopping opportunities. The big companies have their deals advertised all over the place, but we want to give local businesses a chance to get the word out. Do you run a Andover business? Just what is Small Business Saturday and why should you support it in Andover.

Big name national retailers take the spotlight on Black Friday as their deep price cuts pull in shoppers in droves. What about those mom-and-pop businesses all over Andover and beyond that are the backbone of America’s economy? Just when do they get their day? That’s basically the question that was asked back in 2010 when the concept of Small Business Saturday was born. Small Business Saturday is “a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities,” the U.S. Small Business Administration explains on its website.
