Two New Exhibits Open at Addison Gallery

Oil paintings, watercolor art, and Maine’s beautiful landscapes are just some of the artwork on display at the Addison Gallery of American Art.

On Saturday, January 28, the Addison Gallery of American Art at Phillips Academy opened the doors to two brand new exhibitions, one on John Marin, a well known watercolorist, and an exhibition featuring nine contemporary painters all focusing on the state of Maine. The Addison and the Portland Museum of Art came together to organize “John Marin: Modernism at Midcentry,” an exhibition that will remain open through April 1st. Marin is known as one of America’s top watercolorists and oil painters. Marin lived until 1953 when he died at the age of 83. “Land, Sea, and Sky: Contemporary Art in Maine,” an exhibition that will run through March 18, also opened on Saturday. First of Three New Exhibits Opens at the Addison Saturday

Three exhibits will be rolled out in January at the Addison Gallery of American Art.

On Jan. 14, the Addison Gallery of American Art, located on the campus of Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., welcomes the first of three new exhibitions. Open Windows: Keltie Ferris, Jackie Saccoccio, Billy Sullivan, and Alexi Worth kicks off an exciting winter season, followed by John Marin: Modernism at Midcentury and Land, Sea and Sky: Contemporary Art in Maine on Jan. 28. In celebration of the new season, the Addison is holding an opening reception on Friday, Jan. 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the museum, free and open to the public.
