Warren Out-Fundraises Brown in Third Quarter by Several Million

Warren out raised Brown by $4.5 million in the third quarter, according to fundraising totals released on Monday by each campaign.

U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren's campaign announced today it has raised more than $12.1 million in the third quarter this year, outraising incumbent Senator Scott Brown by $4.5 million. Brown's campaign had its best fundraising total to date this quarter, at $7.4 million. The Brown campaign enters the home stretch with approximately $10.2 million cash on hand.  About 80 percent of Warren's contributors were donation amounts of $50 or less, and $7 million was raised in September alone, the campaign said. “Tens of thousands of people across Massachusetts have joined this campaign because they know that Elizabeth will fight for them in the U.S. Senate,” said Michael Pratt, Finance Director.  "This strong support will help propel the …

LETTER: L'Italien Advocates for Merrimack Valley

This letter is in support of Barbara L'Italien for State Representative.

Several years ago, the State intended to erect a cell tower in our neighborhood. It would have hovered 75 feet above the tree line in state-owned property that borders the Trustees of the Reservation, Philiips Academy, and private property. The impact on the skyline, our property values, and our town’s future wireless tower proposals were at risk .  Although we discovered a cell system was already in place making the proposed tower irrelevant, a lack of public notice created a situation where town officials’ hands were tied and our rights through the legal system had timed out. After appealing to all of our local legislators, only Barbara L’Italien took on our seemingly impossible cause. Barbara attended our meetings and brought key …

If Barbara L'Italien advocates for the Merrimack Valley then why, in all her time in the legislature, did we not hear that we are spending over $200 MILLION dollars on people who are in this country ILLEGALLY (this being the "old-fashioned" definition meaning "against the law") ? This $200 MILLION dollars could have been spent in any number of ways on Massachusetts residents (schools, the elderly…   more ›

Fishman Calls Foul on WCVB

The Libertarian candidate is not invited to attend a debate.

For a recent Fox 25 debate, John Tierney chose not to attend. But now, another local news station is asking another candidate to do the same. Libertarian candidate for Congress Daniel Fishman says that he doesn't qualify to participate in WCVB's hour-long debate to be held on Oct. 25. "My first reaction was shock," Fishman wrote on his Web site. "At each debate we have put on a strong performance, and at each debate our ranks have swelled. Our campaign has serious momentum." Participation in the debate, Fishman said, depended on certain criteria: A candidate must have a certain number of staff members, a daily campaign schedule, communicate on a regular basis with news media, garner at least 10 percent in two recent independent polls and …

Lack of money should not be a hinderance. Only a lack of support. If he clears the 10 percent then he should be in the debate. If fact that should be the only criteria. That and being able to be civil and not interupt 82 times or laughing hysterically.   more ›

Rep. Adams Says He Is 'Disappointed" on DeLeo's Comment on Taxes

State Rep. and State Senate candidate Paul Adams speaks out against the house leadership's position on raising taxes during the next legislative session.

This was provided by the office of State Rep. Paul Adams.  State Rep. Paul Adams, currently a candidate for State Senate, said recently he was extremely disappointed in the Speaker of the House of Representatives Robert DeLeo telling the media last week that he can’t guarantee he won’t try to raise taxes in the next legislative session. “It’s unfortunate that Speaker DeLeo is now paving the way to raise taxes starting next year. There is considerable pressure by the Governor and members in the Legislature to create new taxes, increase taxes and put in place policies that hurt job creation and businesses,” Adams said. Rep. Adams (R-Andover) said he was one of only 16 legislators to receive a 100% rating from the Citizens for Limited …

LETTER: Finegold Fights for Autism Funding

Andover resident Sarah O’Leary writes this letter in support of Sen. Barry Finegold for re-election in November.

For those of you whom may not know State Senator Barry Finegold personally, I would like to take a moment to try and describe his devotion and dedication to, not only all of the citizens in his district, but especially to all the families and individuals affected by Autism. Autism is a behavioral and developmental disorder which currently affects 1 in 88 children.  It is with great honor and pride that I have the ability to work with children diagnosed with Autism on a daily basis. As a behavioral program manager and therapist, I personally come in contact with the hardships that this diagnosis can have on an individual and their respective family members.  With this constant struggle, early intervention and continuing services are …

LETTER: Maura Ciardiello for Governor's Council

Joe D'Amore writes in support of Maura Ciardiello for the Governor's Council.

Maura Ciardiello; mom, teacher and citizen-public servant It takes a passionate woman to get people excited about something as obscure as the Governor's Council. Maura Ciardiello is such a candidate in this otherwise contentious campaign season where the public's imagination is held strongly  by seemingly more important races like the congressional , state senate and the  presidential races. But for Massachusetts ; the Governor's Council - a virtual political outpost- is important. Composed of eight individuals elected from districts, and the Lieutenant Governor who serves ex officio. The eight councilors are elected from their respective districts every two years. The Council meets weekly to record advice and consent on warrants for the …

Shannon O'Brien: 'Make Or Break Night for Mitt Romney'

Democrat who debated Romney in 2002 says Barack Obama must be on his toes tonight.

Mitt Romney's been down in the polls before, says Shannon O'Brien, the former Massachusetts state treasurer who battled him for governor in 2002. "I've seen him turn things around." O'Brien is referring to their 2002 debate, which was seen as a springboard for the millionaire businessman. Romney has since sparred in numerous GOP debates, in 2008 and 2012, and has smoothed out some of that stiff Romney from yesteryear, she says in an interview with Patch. His is a familiar strategy, says O'Brien, who now owns a consulting business in Boston:  Those punch lines she refers to are the supposed "zingers" Romney is reported to have rehearsed over the past month. How many will he fire off? And how well will the sitting president fend them off? …
