Andover Teen Formally Charged in 2011 Hazing Incident

One student involved was sentenced to two years probation for the incident that occurred while he was a minor and a member of the Andover Basketball team attending summer camp at Stonehill College.

An Andover teen charged in a hazing incident that occurred during a summer basketball camp at an Easton college campus in 2011 had his case disposed of in Taunton District Court Monday, according to a statement released by Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter's office. Craig Luschenat, 19, of Andover chose to waive a Clerk Magistrate Hearing and be formally charged with two counts of Hazing. According to the statement: Mr. Luschenat admitted to sufficient facts of the case after his arraignment in Taunton District Court. Judge Kevin Cunningham then sentenced Mr. Luschenat to a continuation without a finding for the term of two years, which included supervised probation, mandatory counseling for a minimum of three months, continue …

State Officials Want a Stronger Anti-Hazing Law

According to the Boston Herald, state officials recently said that the anti-hazing law should have heavier reporting requirements.

Many state officials recently commented on the strength of anti-hazing requirements and creating legislation soon to make them stronger, according to an article in the Boston Herald. State Auditor Suzanne Bump said that her office reccomended that the anti-hazing law be revamped so schools are required to report incidents to the state. Hazing hit home this past November when it was discovered that two Andover boys basketball players allegedly made two younger players play a degrading sexual game at a basketball camp this summer. Other officials say that parents are often "left in the dark" when their child was involved with a hazing incident at school. Coach Put on Administrative Leave over Alleged Hazing

Head boys basketball coach David Fazio was placed on administrative leave, according to WBZ.

The alleged hazing incident among the Andover boys basketball team continues to develop as the head coach was reported to have been placed on administrative leave. WBZ reported that head boys basketball team David Fazio was placed on administrative leave today. No more details were given. This comes after news of the two athletes involved in the alleged incident being expelled and five others kicked off the basketball team. Allegations state that two Andover High basketball team members pushed two younger members of the team to eat a cookie with bodily fluid on it, according to area news reports. This is disgusting and I hope these two younger students put the full power of the courts against the school, atheletic department, the bullies and thier parents, the sports camp and the school superintendent. Wedgies and being put on the water fountain were the height of "hazing" when I was in school. What has become of our schools? The "new and policitally correct" experiment doesn't work.   more ›

UPDATE: Students to Face Disciplinary Actions for Hazing Incident

Andover School Superintendent Marinel McGrath said there were violations of school policy as a result of the alleged hazing incident.

Students will face a variety of repurcussions as a result of an investigation into allegations of hazing by Andover High boys varsity basketball team members at a basketball camp last July, superintendent Marinel McGrath stated. Marinel McGrath released a statement (see PDF) recently that said there were violations of school policies in connection with the alleged incident. "I am saddened to report that the investigation has concluded that there were violations of the policies," said McGrath in the press release. Investigation of Hazing to be Finished by Week's End

The Andover School Department's investigation into allegations of hazing by AHS athletes should be completed by the week's end.

School and police officials are currently investigating claims of hazing by two boys baksetball team members at a Easton basektball camp this past summer. While Easton Police will be conducting an investigation, possibly with the district attorney, the Andover School Departmetn's investigation should be completed by next week. According to various news sources, two players on the boys varsity basketball team pushed two younger members to eat a cookie covered in bodily fluid at the summer camp in a strange, sexually-explicit hazing incident. Since allegations surfaced just before Thanksgiving, Easton's Stonehill College has kicked the basketball camp, called Hoop Mountain, off their campus.
