UPDATE: YMCA Closed Thursday Due to Water Main Break

The YMCA in Andover is announcing that they will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday due to a water main break.

The Andover/North Andover YMCA provided this update. The Andover/North Andover YMCA will be closed all day and evening on Wednesday, November 28 and Thursday, November 29 due to a water main break in the building. In the mean time, please keep in mind that active Merrimack Valley YMCA members may access our Lawrence YMCA or may take advantage of the New England Membership Reciprocity Program, a program where current members may visit any Y in the New England area free of charge. Certain restrictions may apply so please contact the Y you are choosing to visit before heading over. Please check back here for the latest status updates. Doggie Dip at YMCA This Friday

This Friday dogs are allowed in the pool at the Andover/North Andover YMCA.

It's exactly what it sounds like. Doggie Dip. The folks over at the Andover/North Andover YMCA want area residents to come by this Friday evening to take their dog for a swim. Before the pool is drained for the summer, the YMCA has invited area dogs to come by for a swim in the pristine pools at the facility. Doggie Dip is happening this Friday, Aug. 24 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Andover/North Andover YMCA pool. The YMCA is charging $20 a dog and all proceeds benefit the Reach Out for Youth and Families Scholarship Fund. Proof of rabies vaccination required.

YMCA Swim Teams Compete in National, World Competitions

The Andover/North Andover YMCA Masters Swim Team athletes brought home four medals from the the World Masters Championships in Italy.

This was provided by the Andover/North Andover YMCA. June was a big month for the competitive swim teams of the Andover/North Andover YMCA. Five athletes from the Masters Swim Team represented the New England Masters Swim Club at the FINA World Masters Championships in Riccione, Italy. The local athletes competed in five competitive swimming events, bringing home four medals. “This was such an exciting event and it was great to see the team’s hard work all year pay off,” said Rick Battistini, Masters Swim Team coach and swimmer. “So many tremendous athletes travel to the World Championships every year, including current and former Olympians, and we’re so proud to have been a part of the action.” Forty-four synchronized swimmers from the …

Local YMCA Team to Compete in World Finals

Athletes from the Andover/North Andover YMCA Masters Swim Team are competing in the FINA World Finals.

In April, the Andover/North Andover Masters Swim team went to a national competition in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with 20 of their best swimmers. And they came out in 8th place; not a bad finish for a national tourney. Now, however, 5 of those athletes will be representing the local YMCA when competing in the upcoming FINA World Masters Championships, being held in Riccione, Italy from June 3 to the 17. The Masters Swim team is headed by coach Rick Battistini and consists of 45 members ranging in ability and specialty, from triathletes to lap swimmers to those who enjoy swimming for fitness. Battistini is now in his six year of teaching and the swim team leader showed nothing but pride for his team. “They worked really hard to get to this …

Credit Union Donates $15K Toward YMCA Project

The Andover/North Andover YMCA expansion project was given at $15,000 boost by the Merrimack Valley Federal Credit Union.

The Andover/North Andover YMCA today announced the Merrimack Valley Federal Credit Union (MVFCU) has pledged $15,000 over three years for the YMCA’s expansion project.The donation is in addition to the MVFCU’s annual gift to the YMCA of $15,000. The expansion project will enable the YMCA to strengthen the foundations of community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Permitting Next Step in YMCA Expansion

The Merrimack Valley YMCA president Steven Ives said that the expanded YMCA should be complete by the end of 2013.

YMCA officials are saying that the newly expanded YMCA will be a diverse meeting place for the community. With a 60,000 square foot expansion and new sections for children and older adults, officials are hoping the new YMCA will serve the community even better. Merrimack Valley YMCA president and CEO Stephen Ives told selectmen last night that they are very close to finishing the schematic designs and will soon be ready to present to the various town boards for the necessary permitting. Ives said that they have recently gotten positive responses on their request for financing and added that there has been more private donations as well. YMCA Updates Andover Expansion Project

The YMCA recently provided an update about the Andover/North Andover YMCA expansion project.

This was provided by the Andover/North Andover YMCA. On Dec. 14 the Merrimack Valley YMCA hosted its annual meeting. The community came together to celebrate the YMCA’s successes over the past year, including the Andover/North Andover YMCA’s expansion project plans.   With the project well underway, Merrimack Valley YMCA CEO and President Stephen Ives provided the community with an update on the expansion plans and highlighted its evolution over the past months.
