The Andover Public Schools are looking for dedicated stakeholders in the school community that would like to join a task force to improve the foreign language program at APS.
This was provided by the Superintendent of Schools Marinel McGrath. Andover Public School District invites teachers, parents, community members, and business leaders to participate in a Task Force that will investigate the importance of and the role languages play in preparing students to function in a global society. The charge for the task force is to consider The Task Force Members will study the K-12 programming models and trends in K-12 foreign language teaching and learning. They will develop goals and strategies for a K-12 Foreign Language Program for inclusion in the APS Strategic Plan. Andover Public Schools welcome two new Assistant Superintendents and a Director of Student Services.
Name: Nancy Duclos Position: Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction The role of this office falls into the areas of curriculum support, teacher support and grants. Duclos said her position is multi-faceted, and she manages curriculum writing across the district including approval of Home School Plans. She also oversees ESL and ELL and instructional accommodations. "It all gets funneled back to my office," she explained. It is her responsibility to facilitate and create professional development for teachers and to work with the program advisors at the high school. Andover Public Schools welcomes two new Assistant Superintendents and a Director of Student Services.
Name: Paul Szymanski Position: Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Administration His office is responsible for the budget, fiscal and operational functions of the Andover Public School district, according to the website. Szymanski said he oversees the finances and works with the Superintendent and School Committee on budget development. In addition to managing the accounting functions, he oversees transportation, food services, custodial operations and the Collins Center facility operations. Name: Joyce Laundre Position: Director of Student Services Her office oversees special education services, English as a Second Language (ESL), English Language Learners (ELL), nursing and education of homeless students. According to the Andover Public School website, the Student Services office is there to "provide each student with the necessary strategies, skills and support to function as independent and contributing members of the school and community." The Superintendent of Schools Marinel McGrath has a number of initiatives and goals beginning this year.
The Andover Public School classes began today and there are many new and exciting programs at all levels that will be starting this year as well as many existing programs. Superintendent of School Marinel McGrath has released a number of new initiatives that will be implemented at various grade levels. One program involves a pilot study of academic use of the iPad. McGrath will be using several in selected classrooms from elementary to high school.
