I don't think they've sought funding in recent years. I could be wrong, though. My impression is that the group is pretty proud of their work to have it all self-funded. I don't know the history of it, though.

I think, if my understanding is correct, that the children who were drunk but not in possession could not be referred to the juvenile review board or charged because there is currently no law that allows the police to do that.
If the town ordinances were changed to allow for that, they could and then police could have taken action against them. It also would be interesting to see what kind of "consequences" are handed out by the juvenile review board and whether it's used for repeat offenders. I'll see if I can find out more. As painful as it is to see your child get in trouble, it's true that consequences at this age can sometimes prevent problems later on.

ReplyI think the decision to close the park was related to the decision to bring in canine units, along with dive units and the rest. I've been the park for missing boater searches, when they have people out on the water ... but if you have dogs searching, having other people, and dogs, and horses and what have you running around I'm guessing could effect the ability of the dogs to do their job? Not sure.
