Sense of Wonder Collecting Sleepwear Donations

The local store is helping keep women warm this winter.

Next time you go shopping downtown, you can bring a pair of pajamas or nightgown to donate to women in need.

The holiday season is a big time for toy drives and collection of kids' clothing, but mothers are often overlooked. So Sense of Wonder on Main Street is collecting sleepwear to donate to Lazarus House for women in shelter.

"When we started this tradition, we really had no idea how much of an impact we could make," Sense of Wonder owner Jean Smith said. "During conversations with Lazarus House staff we learned that during December particularly, moms staying at Lazarus House shelters focus on insuring that their children have holiday presents. We wanted to make sure that those moms received something nice too. The result was Sense of Wonder’s Sleepwear Drive."

This is the fifth year the store has held this donation drive, and it's been a huge success.

“We ran out of room and had to use space off-site to hold all the donations," Smith said. "In our own small way we helped brighten the holidays for a number of women. That’s what being a community business is about."

Donations can be dropped off at Sense of Wonder in Andover or Reading by Dec. 19.
